Time to Listen
BADMINTON England is pleased to now be in a position to deliver the Time to Listen workshop to help support and provide training to our Child Welfare Officers.
What is Time to Listen?
Time to Listen (TTL) is a four hour interactive workshop which has been designed for those with a designated welfare officer role within sport. It has been developed by the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) and has been adapted to be specific to badminton.
What will be covered on the workshop?
The Time to Listen workshop is training for Child Welfare Officers to help them carry out their safeguarding role and responsibilities to young people. The workshop will provide the opportunity to discuss a range of topics in a friendly, open and informal environment, as well as providing an opportunity to share good practice and learn from other Child Welfare Officers. Candidates will receive a Time to Listen resource booklet along with a copy of BADMINTON England's Safeguarding and Protecting Young People Policy & Guidelines. The workshop includes the following areas:
-
Your role as a Child Welfare Officer
-
What is an ‘aware’ club?
-
How you can support your club by involving children, young people and parents
-
Putting safeguarding in place and promoting best practice within your club
-
Core legislation, government guidance and the national framework for safeguarding children and young people
-
The roles and responsibilities of statutory agencies, sports, local safeguarding children boards (LSCBs) and other organisations

Who should attend a Time to Listen workshop?
This workshop is specifically aimed at Child Welfare Officers and people who have a designated welfare role.
Whilst we appreciate that some Child Welfare Officers will be trained and experienced in child protection issues, we highly recommend this workshop for all Child Welfare Officers as it will provide them with an opportunity to consider their role and responsibilities within a badminton, sporting context.
