Blair and Wallwork top seeds at Wimbledon
ROBERT BLAIR and Jenny Wallwork are top seeds for the mixed doubles at the final ASICS National Elite Open at Wimbledon Rackets and Fitness Club this weekend.
The England pair will go into the tournament fresh from their victory at the Big Boss Dutch Open in Den Bosch yesterday.
The Wimbledon event is the third and final points qualifier before the ASICS Grand Finals at the University of Bath on Tuesday, December 12.
Blair and Wallwork are also top seeds at Wimbledon in the level doubles, with Blair partnering Nathan Rice and Wallwork partnering Suzanne Rayappan.
Rice is leading the points table in the men's singles but is only third seed despite his first ASICS win at the Sussex Elite last month.
National champion Nick Kidd (now Bucks), Rajiv Ouseph and Toby Honey are also in contention for a final place - the top two players or pairs in the points standings qualify for the Bath finals.
But the women's singles is virtually cut and dried after Rachel Howard, runner-up to Michelle Cheung in the opening Yorkshire Elite in Sheffield in September, reversed the final outcome in the Sussex final.
In the men's doubles Robin Middleton & Robert Adcock and Dean George & Chris Tonks, who won in Sussex, and are only third and fourth seeds but look to have enough points in the bag to go through to Bath.
And in the women's doubles Wallwork and Rayappan lead with a secure-looking 300 points although second seeds Sarah Bok and Howard could make a late charge for a place in the final at Bath, where Howard is a university student.
The mixed doubles will be a close run thing with Blair & Wallwork favourites at Wimbledon. If they were to win, Wallwork would collect 180 points with Blair to go with the 180 she has from her Sheffield win with Kris Roebuck. But a semi-final or better for David Lindley & Suzanne Rayappan could lift them into second place behing leaders Chris Tonks & Liza Parker.
