Ouseph takes singles, Langridge and Middleton win doubles in Toulouse
RAJIV OUSEPH scooped his fourth international success of the season in Toulouse today when he took the men’s singles crown at the Volant d’Or tournament.
The 22-year-old two-time English National champion from Hounslow in West London was always in control as he beat Indian third seed Parupalli Kashyap 21-11 21-12 to add the Toulouse title to his wins in Scotland, Ireland and Canada since the end of November.
The result will also boost his world ranking of No. 33 as he looks to break into the elite top 20 in the build-up to London 2012.
England scooped a second title in the men’s doubles when Surrey’s Chris Langridge and Yorkshire’s Robin Middleton beat Denmark’s second seeds Rasmus Bonde and Mikkel Delbo Larsen 21-11 21-19.
That avenged Langridge’s final defeat by the Danes at last week’s Spanish Open in Madrid when he partnered Dean George (Herts).
It also gave Middleton his second title in a week, having won the mixed doubles in Madrid with Mariana Agathangelou.
In the women’s singles final in Toulouse Coventry’s English National champion Jill Pittard, the second seed, went down 21-8 21-13 to top seed Ella Diehl of Russia.
BADMINTON England's Martin Andrew said: “Raj was exceptional today. But his level of performance has been very strong all tournament. He didn’t give Kashyap chance to get into the match.
“Jill put in a good effort in getting to the final but didn’t perform quite as well as she can against Diehl. Even so, she played a lot better than the score suggests.
“As for Chris and Robin, they put in an excellent performance. They had a little blip in the second game at 11-5 to let the Danes back in but they pulled themselves together and were worthy winners.”

RAJIV OUSEPH, a winner in Scotland, Ireland and Canada already this season, is chasing another men's singles title in Toulouse this afternoon.
The Middlesex star, who is up to No 33 in the world, beat Aditya Prakash (India) 21-10 21-13 in his quarter-final and then overcame Danish fifth seed Peter Mikkelsen 21-17 21-16 to avenge his defeat in their previous meeting.
In the final he will face India's third seed Parupalli Kashyao.
England are chasing a title double in the singles with National champion and second seed Jill Pittard (pictured) through to the women's final. She beat Austria's Claudia Meyer in the quarter-finals 21-14 21-11 then battled well in the semi-final, coming from a game down to beat last week's Spanish Open winner Sayali Gokhale of India 19-21 21-15 21-16.
In the final she will meet Russian top seed Ella Diehl, who knocked out Cheshire's Helen Davies 21-14 21-11 in the quarter-finals.
England's third title chance is in the men's doubles where Chris Langridge and Robin Middleton, whose form has improved match by match in Toulouse, face Denmark's second seeds Rasmus Bonde and Mikkel Delbo Larsen. The Danes won the Spanish title last week when they beat Langridge and Dean George in the final.
Langridge and Middleton beat Denmark's Christopher Bruun Jensen and Morten T Kronborg 21-17 19-21 21-11 in the quarter-finals, where team-mates George and Peter Mills impressively disposed of Ukraine's third seeds Vitaly Konov and Dmytro Zavadsky 21-10 21-11.
In the semi-finals Langridge and Middleton edged past Ruben Gordown and Stenny Kusuma 21-19 21-17 but George and Mills went down to Bonde and Larsen 21-14 21-11.
Middleton now has the chance to make it two titles in a week, having won the mixed doubles with Avon's Mariana Agathangelou in Madrid.
Langridge had been bidding for a second title shot in the mixed doubles with Scotland's Jillie Cooper but they fell to Bonde and Britta Andersen 21-16 21-6 in the quarter-finals. Experienced Polish pair Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Kostiuczyk were given a tough test by George and Sarah Walker before going through 17-21 21-12 21-11.
In the women's doubles Jessica Fletcher and Scotland's Emma Mason lost to top seeds Valeri Sorokina and Nina Vislova of Russia but the Anglo-Scottish pair stretched them to three games before going down 13-21 21-15 21-11.
Alexandra Langley and Lauren Smith were beaten by second seeds Laura Choinet and Weny Rahmawati of France 21-11 21-7.

Rajiv Ouseph takes on Indian qualifier Adity Prakash for a place in the men's singles semi-finals at the Volant d'Or tournament in Toulouse today.
Victory is likely to earn the second seed from Middlesex a semi-final clash tonight against Danish fifth seed Peter Mikkelsen.
In his opening match Ouseph, who has won three titles in five months, defeated Frenchman Simon Maunoury 21-16 21-12 and then survived a stern examination by R. M. V. Gurusaidatt of India, coming from behind to win 12-21 21-18 21-16.
England's other National singles champion Jill Pittard is through to the last eight of the women's singles along with Liverpool prospect Helen Davies.
Coventry's England international Pittard beat France's Yelena Shutenko and Belgfium's Lianne Tan in straight games and now faces Austria's Claudia Mayer.
Wirral star Davies had to work for her place in the last eight, beating Spain's Laura Molina 18-21 21-18 21-6 then edging past Alesia Zaitsava of Belarus 21-19 6-21 21-16. She now faces Russian top seed Ella Diehl.
England's other singles hopes, Fontaine Chapman (Warks) and Kate Robertshaw (Yorks), both came through the qualifying to reach the main draw. But Chapman lost to Estonia's third seed Kati Tolmoff while Robertshaw was knocked out by France's Perrine Lebuhanic, both in straight games.
In the men's doubles England have two pairs through to the last eight. Chris Langridge (Surrey) and Robin Middleton (Yorks) made it to the quarter-finals after two three-game battles, beating Jonas Geigenberger and Andreas Heinz of Germany 18-21 21-15 21-11 then getting the better of Denmark's Kasper Faust Henriksen and Anders Kristiansen 21-14 16-21 21-17.
Dean George (Herts) and Peter Mills (Notts) won their opening test 21-16 21-10 against France's Maxime Renault and Sylvain Ternon 21-16 21-10 and then got the better of Germany's Peter Kaesbauer and Jan Soeren Schulz, coming from behind to win 17-21 21-11 21-16.
In the women's doubles there was a surprise early defeat for Anglo-Scottish pair Mariana Agathangelou (Avon) and Jillie Cooper (Edinburgh). The Scottish and Welsh Open champions, who had a first-round bye when a match would have help them settle into the tournament, fell to France's Samantha Barning and Eefje Muskens in the second round 21-18 19-21 21-15.
But England have Alexandra Langley and Lauren Smith through to the quarter-finals after a 21-14 18-21 21-15 win over Canadians Milaine Cloutier and Valerie St Jacques.
And another Anglo-Scottish pairing joins them in the last eight with Jessica Fletcher and Glasgow's Emma Mason scoring a good win over Elisa Chanteur and Barbara Matias of France 13-21 21-15 21-11.

RAJIV OUSEPH will be looking to add to his Scottish, Irish and Canadian successes in the last six months when he tackles the Volant d'Or tournament in Toulouse this weekend.
Ouseph (Middlesex) is second seed in Toulouse behind Finland's Ville Lang and the two-time English National champion will be fancied to reach the final - as long as he can overcome a potentially tricky clash with seventh-seeded Irishman Scott Evans if they meet in the third round.
Ouseph opens his bid against Simon Maunoury after the Frenchman was promoted from the qualifying.
In the women's singles national champion and second seed Jill Pittard (Warks), a semi-finalist in Madrid last weekend, faces a qualifier while Sudirman Cup squad member Sarah Walker (Essex) is also in the main draw. Her first-round opponent Abantika Deka of India has withdrawn.
Cheshire's Helen Davies, who was a member of the Center Parcs-supported Team England squad at the European Team Championships in Liverpool in February, faces Spain's Laura Molina in the first round while eighth seed Solenn Pasturel (Jersey) meets Alesia Zaitsova of Belarus.
The England girls are joined in the main draw by Warwickshire's Fontaine Chapman and Yorkshire's Kate Robershaw, who came through the qualifying rounds.
Robertshaw knocked out German third seed Alina Hammes convincingly 21-16 21-13 while Chapman put out the fourth seeded Beatriz Corrales of Spain with a gritty display, winning 16-21 22-20 23-21. It was her second three-game battle after winning her opening match against Shinta Saiche of France 21-15 18-21 21-13.
Sixth qualifying seed Alexandra Langley (Notts) almost made it three England qualifiers but just missed out in her deciding match against Dutch opponent Thamar Peters 22-20 11-21 21-10.
In the first round Chapman faces a tough match against experienced third seed Kati Tolmoff of Estonia while Robertshaw tackles France's Perrine Lebuhanic. If the two England girls win, they will meet in the second round.
Robin Middleton (Yorks) and Mariana Agathangelou (Avon), who won the mixed doubles title in Madrid last weekend, have a first-round bye as they look to repeat their title success this weekend.
In two Anglo-Scottish pairings, Peter Mills (Notts) partners Glasgow's Emma Mason while Chris Langridge (Surrey) teams up with Edinburgh's Jillie Cooper. Mills and Mason had to qualify but booked their place in the main draw with two solid wins over French opposition.
In the women's doubles Agathangelou and Cooper are third seeds and will be aiming to produce the form that took them to the Scottish and Welsh titles at the end of last year. They pair have a first-round bye.
Heather Olver (Sussex), a semi-finalist with Agathangelou in Madrid, will team up with Walker in the women's doubles and partners Dean George (Herts) in the mixed.
In the men's doubles Middleton and Langridge will be bidding for success while George and Mills are England's other pair in action. Langridge and George were runners-up in the men's doubles in Madrid.
