Adcock and Middleton warm up for ASICS Grand Finals

ROBERT ADCOCK and Robin Middleton used the weekend to warm up their men's doubles clash with great rivals Dean George and Chris Tonks at the ASICS Grand Finals at the University of Bath on Tuesday.

The England prospects won through to the semi-finals of the Bulgarian Open in Sofia before losing to Simon Mollyhus and Anders Kristiansen of Denmark 15-21 21-13 21-17.

Another Grand Finalist, Rajiv Ouseph reached the quarter-finals of the men's singles before losing 21-10 21-10 to Germany's second seed Bjoern Joppien. But that will have been a useful workout before the European junior champion faces Nathan Rice in the Bath final.

Suzanne Rayappan and Jenny Wallwork, who will face Mariana Agathangelou and Gabby White in Bath, also reached the last eight in the women's doubles before losing to Indonesians Meiliana Jauharu and Purwati 21-16 21-13.

But Joanne Nicholas and Natalie Munt went one better by reaching the semi-finals before losing to Nina Vislova and Valeria Sorkina of Russia in a tight match 9-21 21-16 21-17.

Vislova also put out Nicholas in the mixed doubels quarter-finals when she and Alexandr Nikolaenko beat her and Ian Palethorpe 21-15 21-17.

ASICS mixed doubles finalists David Lindley and Suzanne Rayppan also went out in the quarters, beaten by Jacob Chemnitz and Julie Houmann of Denmark 21-16 22-20.
