Ellis forced to quit in Indonesia last 16 clash

Chris Adcock and Andy Ellis suffered agonising disappointment when they had to retire in the second game of their last 16 clash with China’s Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan at the BCA Indonesian Open in Jakarta today.

The Chinese seventh seeds had won the opening game 21-13 and were leading 18-13 in the second when Ellis had to quit with a leg injury which first occurred at 14-12

Head coach Jakob Hoi said: "At 14-12 Andy made a quick lateral movement at the net and felt a pain.

“Initially he just felt sore. But a few points later he felt too restricted in his movement to play. The physio doesn’t think the problem is too severe so we are hoping for a quick recovery.”

It is the second time a match between the pairs had ended in a retirement. In their first meeting at the same stage of last year’s Indonesian Open it was Liu who had to retire when the Chinese were leading 15-13 in the first game.
