English success at U15 Home Countries

The U15 Home Countries took place last weekend in Cardiff, with English success in the team event.

England began with an 8-1 win against Ireland followed by another comfortable 8-1 win against Wales.

This set up the deciding match between England and Scotland. England went 3-0 down in the tie after losses in both boy's doubles and the first girl's doubles.

The first boy's doubles contest between Zach Russ and Harry Huang and Matthew and Christopher Grimley included a fantastic long rally - a whopping 93 shots! The English pairing won this particular rally but couldn’t take the match losing in three games.

England then got onto the scoreboard with a win in the girl's doubles and went on to win all of the single's matches with Sian Kelly winning the deciding rubber and taking the Home Countries trophy with a dramatic 5-4 win.

England also had success in the individual events with an all-English boy's singles final between Zach Russ and Harry Huang - Zach coming out on top in a three-set battle. Grace King made her way to the girl's singles final where she played the pre-tournament favourite Gean Sou Mo of Wales. Grace put in a valiant effort but went down in three sets.

England’s other gold medal came in the girl's doubles where Sian Kelly and Freya Patel-Redfearn put in an impressive performance to defeat Scots Lily Farnood and Rachel Lu in two close games.
