Chris Adcock seeded in two events at Yonex All England Open Championships
ENGLAND’S Chris Adcock has been seeded in both his events at next month’s 104th Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships at the National Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham.
Adcock, who is competing with England at the European Team Championships in Basel this week, is seeded fifth in the mixed doubles with his wife Gabby.
The top seeds are China’s Olympic champions Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei with world champions and All England title holders Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia at number two.
The only other Europeans seeded are Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark at four.
In the men’s doubles Adcock and Andy Ellis are the eighth seeds with world champions Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan of Indonesia in top spot.
Denmark’s 2011 winners and world runners-up Carsten Mogensen and Matthias Boe are third seeds.
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, who has appeared in the last five men’s singles finals and won the title twice, is top seed in the men’s singles with defending champion Chen Long of China seeded to meet him in the final for the second year running.
Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen, at four, is the only European seeded.
In the women’s singles China fill three of the top four seedings with former champions Li Xuerui (2012), Wang Yihan (2009) and Wang Shixian (2011) at one, two and four with 19-year-old world champion and last year’s runner-up Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand the third seed.
The retirement of last year’s winner Tine Baun of Denmark leaves Europe without a woman player seeded.
Denmark provide the only European seeds in the women’s doubles with Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl, the BWF World Superseries Finals winners, seeded second to China’s world champions Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli, who are defending the All England title they also won in 2011. They have appeared in the last three finals in Birmingham.
The draw will be published on Tuesday and the full seeding list is here.
The Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships runs from 4-9 March at the NIA and tickets are still available.
