England's women through to semi-finals while men reach quarter-finals

England's women's squad scored their third Group One win at the Uber Cup today by beating Bulgaria 4-1 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Jill Pittard was the only player to miss out, losing in three games to Linda Zechiri 15-21 21-14 21-18. But singles wins for Tracey Hallam and Julia Mann, who came back from a game down to beat Diana Dimova, helped England stay on top. Doubles wins for Gail Emms  and Donna Kellogg and Joanne Nicholas and Ella Tripp finished the job.

That earned the top seeds a bye in today's quarter-finals so they go straight into the last four.

England's men can join them in the semi-finals if they beat France on Friday in the Thomas Cup quarter-finals.

They scored their third 5-0 win of the week by finishing their group matches with a 5-0 win over Slovenia.

Nathan Robertson partnered David Lindley in the men's doubles, the Olympic mixed doubles silver medallist playing his first men's doubles since deciding in September to focus on mixed doubles in individual events.

Both teams must finish in the top three to qualify for the Thomas and Uber Cup finals in Sendai City and Tokyo from April 30-May 6.
