Adcock and Ellis fall just short in Swiss semi-finals

Chris Adcock and Andy Ellis pushed Korean top seeds Ko Sung Hyun and Lee Yong Dae all the way before being edged out in their men's doubles semi-final at the Swiss Open in Basel this afternoon.

The 2012 English National champions, ranked No.23 in the world, went down
21-19 21-19 in a 47-minute contest which could have gone either way.

Adcock and Ellis, once again England's last hopes in a tournament, trailed 17-13 in the opening game but pulled level at 18-18 only for the Koreans to push on and take the opener on their second game point.

In the second game Adcock and Ellis overturned a 10-7 deficit to lead 12-10 and 13-12. But the Koreans surged again and were two points from victory at 19-17 before the England pair again levelled at 19-19 .

But the pair ranked No.3 in the world took the next two points to clinch the game and the match 21-19. Even so Adcock and Ellis, who last month scored their first win over world No1s Carsten Mogensen and Matthias Boe of Denmark, know they are now playing at their highest level to date.
