Adcock and Bankier fall in first round at Yonex Denmark Open

World silver medallists Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier made a disappointing return to action at the Yonex Denmark Open in Odense tonight.

The eighth seeds, playing together for the first time since the Olympic Games, went out in the first round of the mixed doubles.

Adcock and Bankier went down 21-17 21-11 against strong Thailand pair Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul.

The Anglo-Scottish pair, who beat their opponents at Wembley on the way to their 2011 world silver medal, led 12-8 in the opening game before the Thai pair hit back to level at 15-15 then take it 21-17 and were always in control in the second game, winning it 21-11.

Marcus Ellis and Gabby White also went out in the first round in the last match of the first day programme, beaten 21-17 21-18 by Thailand's Patiphat Chalardchaleam and Savitree Amitrapai.

Last weekend's Yonex Dutch Open runners-up held their opponents up to
15-15 in the first game before the Thai pair pulled away and they repeated the surge from 14-11 down in the second game to lead 16-14 and went on to claim victory.

Ellis had begun the day trying to reach the men's doubles main draw but he and Scotland's Paul van Rietvelde lost to Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Jonas Rasmussen 21-19 21-12.

England had one bit of good news at the start of the day when Chris Langridge and Peter Mills were promoted to the main draw of the men's doubles.

They now meet Chalardchaleam and Nipitphon Puangpuapech tomorrow night with the winners facing Adcock and Andrew Ellis or top seeded Danes Matthias Boe and Carsten Mogensen in the second round.

In tomorrow's men's singles first round Rajiv Ouseph faces Malaysia's Daren Liew in the evening session while in the women's doubles White and Lauren Smith take on Indonesia's Suci Rizky Andini and Della Destiara Haris.

The Yonex Denmark Open is one of the five Premier events in the OSIM BWF World Superseries 2012.
