Tickets on sale as English National Badminton Championships return to Manchester
The epitome of English badminton talent is returning to Manchester for a ninth year when the English National Badminton Championships are held there from the 1st - 3rd February 2013 at the newly remodelled National Cycling Centre.
This annual event will feature some of badminton’s London 2012 Olympians, those aspiring to be part of Rio 2016 as well as our young stars of the future. This is a fabulous opportunity to look at who will be representing us on the world stage for the coming year.
BADMINTON England Chief Executive Adrian Christy said: “The Nationals are always are great way to start our season of major events and we are delighted to be returning to Manchester, where we have enjoyed the tremendous support of Manchester City Council for almost a decade.
The players are also looking forward to competing in front of a tremendous crowd who, along with the volunteers, make this event so special.”
Councillor Rosa Battle, Manchester City Council executive member for culture and leisure, said: “It is brilliant to see the English National Badminton Championships return to Manchester in 2013 and it is a welcome addition to our packed programme of sporting events next year.
“Manchester boasts world-class sporting facilities and holding the Championships at the National Cycling Centre goes to show just how versatile they are.”
The English National Championships, which is part of the National Championship Series across all age groups, will in 2013 be staged at the National Cycling Centre. The venue is transformed into a badminton arena with the support of Manchester City Council, racket and equipment company Carlton and online badminton retailers ibadmintonstore.com, into four badminton courts surrounded by tiered seating for the first two days and one show court for finals day.
Spectators can witness in action London 2012 Olympian and Commonwealth silver medallist Rajiv Ouseph, who will be bidding for a record sixth consecutive men’s singles title, while World Championship silver medallist Chris Adcock will be on court in both the mixed and men’s doubles battling for a second consecutive National’s title in both disciplines.
