Larkspur Primary School, St Anne’s Primary School, Oakfield Junior School, Carr Hill Community Primary School, St Wilfred’s Primary School and Kelvin Grove Primary School were all present on the day.

 

Each school represented a country that will be competing in this summer’s Olympic Games and got into the mood of the games by making flags and posters of the country they were representing.

 

60 children aged 9-11 years old took part in the day with the emphasis being on participation and fun, most of the children who attended the festival had no previous badminton experience. To help the day run smoothly there were 10 young leaders from Joseph Swan in attendance who had recently completed a Badminton Junior Helper Award funded through the PL4S project.

 

All children who attended the day left with a NUFC skills ball and a Newcastle United Foundation medal.

 

Steven Davidson a teacher from Joseph Swan said “Our pupils loved helping out at the badminton festival and really enjoyed seeing the young children have such good fun”

 

Laura Sweeney a teacher from St Wilfred’s Primary School said “All our children had a fantastic day and really enjoyed themselves, they were all really proud of themselves and loved receiving a medal”

 

PL4S Co-ordinator Lisa Bell said “It was great to see so many children taking part in badminton that were new to the sport, what made it even more special was the link to the Olympic Games as it wetted people’s appetite for the big event”.
