With the Olympics only a few months away, BADMINTON England’s chief executive, Adrian Christy, took time out of his busy schedule to visit badminton projects in the North West.

As part of the visit, Adrian stopped off in Pendle to see how badminton has been developed through partnership working in the area.

Adrian met with representatives from Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, Colne Badminton Club and Pendle Leisure Sports Trust, who explained how they had successfully developed badminton within the Pendle area.

The partner groups have worked together to offer more opportunities for people to play badminton from junior to senior level, and for people with disabilities.

The Community Trust has been running its Premier League 4 Sport (PL4S) project, which has helped junior players develop through the ranks, for three years with badminton clubs in Pendle.

The Trust has now also started its own Community Badminton Club, which is open to anyone aged eight and above. The club is held on Monday nights, from 7-10pm, at Blackburn Rovers Sports Arena, Darwen Vale.

The North West regional manager for BADMINTON England, Nick Rimmer, thanked the partner organisations following the visit. He said: “Adrian left very impressed by what has been achieved in such a short space of time by your commitment, enthusiasm and hard work.”
