England squad off to Anaheim

England's most capped current squad member Simon Archer is tipping Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms for success at the World Championships in Anaheim, California, from August 15-21.

The two-time Commonwealth mixed doubles champion with more than 80 England caps, who won world bronze and silver medals in doubles at the 1999 world championships, said at a 'Meet the Players' session at Milton Keynes in midweek: "They're by far our best chance of a medal."

Robertson, of course, partnered Archer to that bronze in Copenhagen six years ago and he said: "I've got a world bronze but now I want a world gold, especially after our Olympic effort."

He and Athens silver partner Gail Emms have been looking sharp in practice and the national, European and Yonex All England champions are tops seeds in Anaheim and on course for a revenge clash with double Olympic champions Zhang Jun and Gao Ling of China.

TV and radio crews turned up at Milton Keynes to film and interview the squad members during one of their final practice sessions before they leave the National Badminton Centre at noon on Friday.

The squad is:

Men's singles: Aamir Ghaffar, Andrew Smith

Women's singles: Tracey Hallam

Men's doubles: Simon Archer & Anthony Clark, Kristian Roebuck & David Lindley, Ian Palethorpe & Paul Trueman

Women's doubles: Donna Kellogg & Gail Emms, Ella Tripp & Jo Wright, Tracey Hallam & Natalie Munt, Liza Parker & Suzanne Rayappan
