Volunteering at Major Championships!

The successful running of any event has long relied on the enthusiasm and commitment of an army of dedicated volunteers.

Many of the same faces turn up year after year to work as volunteers at our Major Events. There are teams of drivers to collect international guests from the airport or railway station, stewards in the arena, media centre staff, match control and shuttle control staff, not to mention umpires and line judges! It is a team effort and each year new members are introduced into the various departments, many of whom the public see but who ensure the show goes on in its slick and professional way.

Next year, BADMINTON England will be running 3 Major Events; the English Nationals 2011 (4th-6th February) at the National Cycling Centre, Manchester; the Yonex All England Championships 2011 (8th-13th March) – one of the Badminton World Federation’s five new Premier events on the 12-tournament Super Series circuit - at the NIA, Birmingham; and the World Championships 2011(8th-14th August) which promises ‘Badminton as you have never seen it before’ at Wembley Arena, London.

It’s never too late to get involved and volunteering offers an opportunity for people of all ages, from students to retirement age. For most roles little training is needed, just a burning enthusiasm and the willingness to be part of a team.
