Nottingham Schools sweep the Center Parcs National Schools Championships

Nottingham schools stole the show at the Center Parcs National Badminton Championships yesterday, 25 April, fighting off stiff competition from 16 other schools in the years 10 and 11 tournament to take the National title in both the boys and the girls competition.

It was a family affair as Nottingham triplets Anushka and Piya in the girls competition and Kurran Sachdeva in the boys were all competing in the tournament and all walked away with a national title under their belts.

The Championship, which took place at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest, saw defending champions Nottingham High School for Girls, comprising sisters Piya Sachdeva and Anushka Sachdeva, Eleanor Travers, Anjuli Henderson and Elizabeth Mumby beat Church High (Newcastle Upon Tyne) in the final round to win the years 10 and 11 Championships by a 20 point margin.

Anushka Sachdeva said:

“We were quietly confident coming into the Championships, we have played a lot together so we were very determined to do well. The Championships has been fantastic and taking place at Center Parcs this year has meant that it was a lot more professional and the standard was pretty high.”

The boys year 10 and 11 national title was a closer competition and came down to the final match between Nottingham High School for Boys and Colchester Royal Grammer School (Essex). It was clearly Nottingham’s day and the boys team of Rohan Midha, Karan Maini, Sam Dickinson and Kurran Sachdeva came through to win the championship title by a two point margin.
