Eidestedt and Ellis triumph in Toulouse
Richard Eidestedt and Andrew Ellis scored the best win of their partnership when they defeated experienced Belgian pair Frederic Mawet and Wouter Claes to win the men's doubles title at the Volant d'Or Open in Toulouse.
The England pair, ranked 157th in the world, toppled the 3/4 seeds 21-12 21-12 in just 29 minutes to beat a partnership ranked 124 places above them at No 33.
It followed up last weekend's good effort when Leeds star Ellis and Bucks prospect Eidestedt reached the semi-finals at the Spanish Open in Madrid.
It also marked their best performance since reaching the Welsh International final in December 2006.
On the way to the final they came back from a game down to beat Andrew Bowman (Scotland) and Matthew Honey (England) in three games in the semi-finals, having won another three-game battle to beat 3/4 seeds Fran Kurniawan and Rendra Wijaya of Indonesia in the quarters.
Richard Eidestedt and Andrew Ellis scored two wins in a day at the Volant d'Or tournament in Toulouse on Friday to reach Saturday's men's doubles final.
In the quarter-finals they beat 3/4 seeds Fran Kurniawan and Rendra Wijaya of Indonesia 21-14 15-21 21-16 and in the semi-finals they won a tough all-British scrap with Scotland's Andrew Bowman and their England team-mate Matthew Honey in another three-setter 18-21 21-15 21-15.
In the quarter-finals Bowman and Honey had pulled off a good win over second seeded German pair Tim Dettmann and Johannes Schoettler 16-21 21-18 21-19.
In the final they will meet Belgium's 3/4 seeds Wouter Claes and Frederic Mawet.
Jill Pittard, the 3/4 seed in the women's singles, reached the quarter-finals before losing a close contest with Belarus 5/8 seed Olga Konon, being edged out 21-15 17-21 22-20.
Scotland's Susan Hughes came through the bottom half of the draw to reach the final with straight-games wins over Dutch 5/8 Rachel van Cutsen and Maria Elfira Christina of Indonesia. She will meet Konon in the final.
In the mixed doubles Honey had teamed up with Konon to reach the last eight before losing to Fran Kurniawan and Shendy Irawati 21-16 17-21 21-13.
