England Dominate at Under 15 Quadrangular
Under 15 Quadrangular
The team tournament began proceedings on Friday 26th April and the English team won their first match 9 - 1 against Wales. Another victory against Ireland began Saturdays matches followed by the decider against Scotland, who had also won their first two matches. After some words of encouragement from the coaching team England dominated the match and ran out worthy 8 - 2 winners and took the team title.
The rest of the weekend was taken up with the Individual Tournaments. England won in four out of the five discplines.
Girls Singles
Sophie Sankey and Lauren Bromley both reached the quarter finals while Emily Westwood came from a game down to win the title, 18 - 21, 21 - 9, 21 - 11.
Boys Singles
George Li beat two opponents before losing in a close match to Jack Kinmond who by doing so completed an entirely English dominated semi final line up including Tim Stranks, Steven Cappleman and the eventual winner Sam Dobson.
Girls Doubles
All five English players made it through to the semi finals, Piya Sachdeva playing with Sophie Sankey, Lauren Bromley partnering Emily Westwood and Holly Smith playing with Bronagh Fleming from Ireland. Lauren and Emily beat the Anglo-Irish team and then proceeded to topple Piya and Sophie's Irish conquerers in a tight three game final.
Boys Doubles
Boys doubles was the only event without an English win, although Steven Cappleman and Sam Dobson went very close, losing in the final to Campbell and Pollock from Scotland 16 - 21, 21 - 13, 21 - 15. Jack Kinmond and Tiom Stranks made it to the semi finals before losing to the eventual victors whilst Goerge Li played with Patrick MacHugh from Scotland and their too made it through to the semi finals.
Mixed Doubles
Sam Dobson and Emily Westwood completed what was a very successful weekend for the English Squad and themselves by winning the Mixed Doubles title. Steven Cappleman and Lauren Bromley made the semi's whilst Jack Kinmond and Piya Sachdeva made the 2nd Round and George Li and Holly Smith were unlucky to fall at the first hurdle.
Overall a great weekend's work by all involved.
