Learning Experience for Under 17's in 6 Nations

Under 17 Six Nations

The championships began with the Team Tournament.  With no stand-out weak nations this year England knew they had their work cut out.  Unfortunately, things didn't go well for the squad and at the end of the Team Tournament England found themselves in fifth place.

Following the Team Tournament came the Individual Events; another chance for the players to pit themselves against the best in Europe.

In the Boys Doubles, Gary Fox and Ben Stawski beat a Swedish (Lopez / Petterson) and then a French pair (Rouxel / Grosjean) before eventually losing in a hotly contested final to the very strong Danish pair of Kruse & Pedersen.  For Gary in particular, representing England for the first time this season, this was an excellent and encouraging display.

In the Girls Singles, Fontaine Chapman was the highlight for the English contingent, reaching the Semi Final before losing to the eventual winner, Anne Hald-Jensen of Denmark.  Fontaine overcame Sara Theodorsson (Sweden), Lene Grebak (Denamrk) and Lianne Tan (Belgium) on route to her semi.

Whilst the squad found the tournament tough, such experiences can only help to improve their performances in the future.
